The manufacturing process for the Ela 251
is very complex and involves numerous steps. Our approach
called for doing it the same way they did 40 years ago, which
made it more difficult in some ways and easier in others.
As a business we first looked at ways to keep manufacturing
costs down. There were many corners we could have cut to save
some money, but in the end realized we could not afford to
change a thing.
We had to adapt our approach to manufacturing
and in some cases spent more time doing it "the old way"
rather than doing it with today's machinery and technology.
This resulted in higher manufacturing costs but produced exceptional
quality. After all, these are hand built in Connecticut, USA
to original German specifications.
These images demonstrate several steps in our manufacturing
process.
